Following the horrible tragedy that Japan is currently experiencing due to the tsunami, earthquakes, and dangers from nuclear reactors, many idols have expressed concern towards the issue. Japan's tragedy is uniting not just the Japanese nation, but the entire globe. International fans of JYJ have raised $5000 USD to donate towards the cause. Famous actors such as Jang Geunsuk, Kim Hyunjoong, Bae Yongjoon, and Ryu Shiwon have collectively donated over $1 million USD towards Japan. The clothing brand UNIQLO, which recently sold specialized Big Bang shirts, donated 1.4 billion yen to the Japan relief effort.

Even so, some idols have also taken it upon themselves, to send messages to their fans in Japan, showing their concern for those in danger. Rain, MBLAQ, and KARA have left messages towards their fans, offering encouragement and hopes for their safety. SNSD has also left messages for their Japanese fans. SNSD has also left two short video messages of condolences and encouragement for not only their fans, but the people of Japan.

Dressed in somber attire, the girls of SNSD address the camera in a segment of a TV special for Japan.

It is because of tragedies such as the one Japan experienced that the world finds a stark reminder of the tremendous, awful power of the Earth. In one moment, it is not just livelihoods lost, but lives as well - each a precious bead of light that was snuffed out due to the sheer spontaneity of the force of nature. It is a time of great loss, of great sorrow and of great despair. But it is within these tragedies that the world finds hope and its heroes as they rise to meet the challenge.

Actors, idols, and fans alike have bridged the gaps between the global society and have become one as they unite to achieve the common goal of rescuing Japan and aiding the relief effort. While there is darkness, there is also the light that is the hope which we, as humans, can radiate when we move to help those who have been stricken by great hardships and sadness. The idols, actors, and fans have made an effort and have set an example. They are, little by little, helping aid Japan in its time of need.
