Ever since Girls’ Generation made their debut into the Japanese music industry, they have been taking the country by storm and racking up numerous awards. Following the First Japan Arena Tour which Girls’ Generation held in 6 cities around Japan, they have been gaining a humongous amount of attention from the Japanese. As previously reported, a Japanese channel, NHK, broadcasted their coverage of one of Girls’ Generation’s concerts held at the Tokyo Dome, and the episode showed the high amount of enthusiasm their fans had at the concert. However, due to overwhelming response from viewers, NHK had agreed to broadcast the documentary once more so that fans can get to watch their idols again.

This vast amount of popularity which the girls are receiving has reflected the amount of attention that the 9 members have been gaining in Japan. On the 21st, Mnet broadcasted their show, “Boom the K-POP” which is a report on the Hallyu Wave around the world, and it showed in great detail, how much attention Girls’ Generation has been gaining.

It was reported on the show that Japanese fans have created a unique method of remembering the 9 members. Members Taeyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung and Yoona, have been dubbed by fans in Japan as the “4 Empresses”. Their reasons behind doing so are because of Taeyeon’s fantastic vocal capabilities, Yuri’s impressive figure, Sooyoung’s tall height and fluency in Japanese, and Yoona’s prefect features.

Sunny, Hyoyeon and Seohyun have also been categorized into as the “Strong Characters” of the group. Sunny is known as the member with overflowing cuteness, Hyoyeon is recognized as the member with outstanding dancing skills, and Seohyun is remembered as the health enthusiast.

The ever charming “eye-smiling” Tiffany and “Ice Princess” Jessica are known to the Japanese as “The Americans”. They are remembered separately from the group due to their stay in the United States while growing up, and their ability to speak English fluently.

So which group is your favorite? “The Empresses”, the “Strong Characters”, or the “Americans”?
